Biography:

James was born in Durban, South Africa to a British Mom and Dutch Father.

Connecting with the bicycle at an early age soon saw James competing, progressing through BMX onto the Track and the Road. Whilst studying and racing , National and African Continental records and titles were achieved on the track followed along with representations at UCI World Cup track series for South Africa and MTN Qhubeka Various UCI road tours for South African national team on the road were also achieved. James was honoured to accept the Captaincy of both national track and road teams during these years.

Time was spent in Europe chasing the dream, racing for teams in the UK, Belgium, Holland and Sweden.

James soon turned his attention to the business side of the sport launching Team DLF at UCI Continental level. He also consulted during the early days of Team Barloworld and Team Konica Minolta as well being event director for the Qhubeka Track Grand Prix.

Taking time away from the world of cycling, James spent 10 years in corporate IT before reconnecting with cycling through his support of Qhubeka in 2013.

Now living in West London, his passion to changes lives through Qhubeka is stronger than ever. He still manages to get out on the bike and holds a 4th category racing licence with British cycling – hopefully this will improve soon he says!

About Qhubeka

Qhubeka helps moves people forward with bicycles. People earn bicycles through their programmes, improving access to schools, clinics and jobs.

Why “Qhubeka” and why bicycles?

Qhubeka is an Nguni word that means “to progress”, “to move forward”. Bicycles help people move forward. With a bicycle, a person can travel faster and further, generate income, and carry more.

OTE Sports is proud to be the official nutrition partner of Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka – Africa’s first ever UCI World Tour cycling team.

Team Dimension Data rides for something bigger than race wins – to help people in Africa to move forward with bicycles through its relationship with Qhubeka Charity. OTE Sports shares the team’s belief that #BicyclesChangeLives.

The OTE Sports team will be taking on a number of challenges in 2019 to raise awareness and funds to support this fantastic cause. Qhubeka, a global charity operating in South Africa, will also be joining us at stand TR1440, so please come and say hello!

You can help us impact more lives by making a donation to Qhubeka Charity here or you can tick the new donation box at checkout when placing an order.
